The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case to investigate last month’s mid-air attack on flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar, who was seriously injured while operating a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
The case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Anti-Hijacking Act, 2016, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, officials said.
Captain Machchhar, a native of Gujarat, was allegedly stabbed by his co-pilot inside the cockpit of a flydubai aircraft during the flight on September 30. Despite sustaining serious injuries, he continued to perform his duties, ensuring the safety of all those on board.
The aircraft was carrying 174 passengers, including 27 children, at the time of the incident.
Captain Machchhar’s actions have drawn widespread praise from leaders and officials across the world, who lauded his courage and professionalism in safeguarding the lives of passengers despite being wounded during the attack.
