Warning has come straight from UN Secretary General that CoronaVirus pandemic has released a nasty hate wave across the world and is resulting into a “human rights crisis” rather than being a human crisis.

Antonio Guterres, who currently heads the United Nations Organisation is a renowned foreign affairs personality, a former Prime Minister of Portugal and an ex-President of the European Council.

His appeal issued on Friday to push for an “all-out effort to end hate speech globally” in wake of xenophobia against COVID19 is taken as an important speech given the recent times.

The speech has now become part of the top three news items in the media rundowns across the globe.

The U.N. chief said “anti-foreigner sentiment has surged online and in the streets, anti-Semitic conspiracy theories have spread, and COVID-19-related anti-Muslim attacks have occurred.”

Guterres said migrants and refugees “have been vilified as a source of the virus — and then denied access to medical treatment.”

“With older persons among the most vulnerable, contemptible memes have emerged suggesting they are also the most expendable,”

He said that the COVID19 pandemic has seen disproportionate effects on certain communities – the rise of hate speech and had targeted the vulnerable group.

This has also raised the risks of heavy-handed security responses by many governments while undermining the health response.

The UN Secretary General stressed that COVID-19 “does not care who we are, where we live, what we believe or about any other distinction.”

It may be recalled that on April 23 last month Antonio Guterres has issued a terse warning stating that CorinaVirus pandemic is likely to become “a human rights crisis’’.
